This 2 day training course will give you the practical skills to look after yourself your group,and your kit, using the latest protocol and practical skills, to ensure safe,effective rescues or recovery in the moderate water environment. This is a very hands on course, covering both open canoe, kayak and specialist boat rescues if needed. This hands on approach to training will increase your awareness and technical knowledge as you are given the resources to put into practice through realistic, practical practice scenarios.
During the course we will explore:Defensive Swimming – Aggressive Swimming- Rescue Protocols – Teamwork-Shallow water crossings – Reaching rescues – Equipment selection – Safe paddling and leading – Throw-line rescues- Tensioned/ Downstream Diagonals – Foot entrapment’s – Stopper rescues and river hydrology – Rope rescues and mechanical advantage – Gear extraction
Pre-Requisites – The course is conducted on grade 2 -3 water, so candidates must be:
- Confident in their ability to paddle on grade 2 water.
- Confident swimming in normal canoe clothing suitable for a moving water environment.
- A minimum of 16 years of age
Fist Aid : A first aid certificate is not a pre-requisite; however the holding of a first aid certificate is strongly recommended
The WWSRT course is a pre-requisite for the 4 star leadership assessment.

RThis course will provide the student with the key safety and rescue skills required to operate safely in a sheltered water environment and to be able to deal with common emergencies in multiple craft types. This is a training course with scenario based practical sessions towards the end of the day. You will require all of your own kit, plus any safety kit you may own (Safety equipment can be provided). This course is a pre-requisite for the UKCC Level 1 coach award and ideal for all involved with paddle sport, both bank and boat based coaches or parents who regularly supervise/oversee sessions in any discipline.

British Canoeing certification Fee. There is also a candidate British canoeing administration fee payable on completion currently £5 member and £10 non members. Please check with British canoeing if unsure .

This 1 day refresher course can be used to bring your skills up to date, prepare you and your group for a trip abroad on more challenging rivers, or just get you ready and “safety aware” for the coming season. You might also want to utilise some of these valuable core safety skills into any expedition, be it Boat or Land Based Intentionally.
This 1 day course will sharpen your responses and get you thinking about quick effective rescues again. The course can be tailored to suit your requirements, so if its the rope work, mechanical advantage systems or just a general refresher let us know.
The WWS&R training course is designed for all paddlers operating in a moderate to advanced white water environment in either kayak or canoe. The WW Safety & Rescue Course, concentrates on the fundamental skills for safe river running, group management and practical rescue techniques for the grade II/III paddling environment. This course is structured to give candidates maximum hands on, “practical practice”, producing simple effective solutions, to rescue paddlers and their kit.
